WHAT’S THE MEANING BEHIND ‘WALK THE RIDGE’?
WHAT’S THE MEANING BEHIND ‘WALK THE RIDGE’?
OUR CORE VALUES
I SEE YOU
SEEING people means seeing them as humans first. We all laugh, we all cry, we all have joys, we all have sorrows. It’s about seeing people for who they really are, not the box we put them in when their opinions or beliefs are different than ours.
I HEAR YOU
HEARING is the ability to become a more active listener. Having the desire to recognize why people think the way they think – and how their values have shaped them. It’s about listening to understand, instead of listening to respond.
I RESPECT YOU
RESPECT means acknowledging an individual’s values and opinions – without being forced or compelled to change your own. To restrain from name calling, shaming, judging, and belittling. To honor the right of others to express their opinions, while maintaining your right to respectfully disagree with civility.

OUR MOVEMENT IS DIFFERENT
Walk The Ridge is NOT about pushing people into changing their beliefs or opinions. It’s about individuals breaking free of the tribe mentality, which has resulted in inflexibility toward listening, understanding, and practicing civility to others with different viewpoints.
The mission is all about individuals making small, daily changes to the way they think of, and interact with all types of people – in actual and online conversation. Over time, these small changes will empower personal, family, work, and community relationships – and bring back more kindness in our society.

It’s Designed For EVERYONE
This movement is for people who are sick and tired of the hate, shame, judgement, and blame – so prevalent in our society. Crossing lines of age, race, gender, faith, socioeconomics and language, Walk The Ridge includes all those who believe in the power of how we choose to interact with others…as a force for change.
SHARE your commitment, improvement, and success with friends, family, co-workers, business, sports team, church, and other organizations. Empower them to wear the band, start their own ‘WALK’ and positively impact the community.

COMMIT… PRACTICE… CHANGE…
The first step to Walking the Ridge is to commit to the daily practice of unadulterated and civil communication. Wearing the wristband serves as a constant reminder to choose kindness over anger, understanding over hatred and peace over violence. When these are persistently and consciously woven into our culture a compassionate more respectful society will emerge. Change will happen-not through force, but organically through small, cumulative shifts in more thoughtful and respectful communication.
